IPOB: Osun Lawmaker, Oyintiloye Sue For Dialogue To Strengthen Democracy
As a way of finding lasting solution to deluge of agitation in the country, as well as sustaining the legacy of democracy, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has appealed to Nigerians to embrace the spirit of dialogue.
The Lawmaker representing Obokun Constituency stated this in Ibadan after being conferred with United Nation Distinguish Service Award by the Center for Leadership and Good Governance to commemorate the 2017 edition of the United Nations International Day of Democracy with the theme “Democracy and Conflict Prevention”.
Oyintiloye, who is the Chairman, Osun House Committee on Information and Strategy, was honoured for his leadership quality and contribution to the development of democracy in Nigeria , along with some other personalities.
Describing democracy as a tool to fast track peace building and national development, he said, “Democracy as a form of government offered platform for dialogue, negotiations and compromises”.
Expressing concern over the diverse level of agitations across the country, particularly in the South Eastern part, and Boko Haram Insurgent in the Northern Part of the country, he said the level of aggression in the nation is attributed to what the agitators perceived as failures on the part of Leaders to do the needful in creating conducive environment for business to grow and employment opportunities.
According to him, no matter how strong or necessary the agitation might be, “it’s always better to jaw-jaw than to war-war”, saying such is the platform that democracy has created for every stakeholder in the system.
The parliamentarian, who pointed out that without doubt, democracy has come to stay in Nigeria irrespective of differences in tribes and languages, maintained the need for government to strengthen all institutions that promote dialogues, human rights and human dignity.
Oyintiloye who was also honored by Radio Nigeria in March this year, observed that President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the country has set the machinery in motion to address the issue of restructuring in the country in line with the global best practices of federalism,
He said every stakeholder must participate in such a way that it would not hamper the peaceful coexistence of the nation.
