2017 NECO Exams: Bayelsa Govt Commends Candidates’ Impressive Performance
The Bayelsa government has commended its candidates for their impressive performance in the 2017 School Certificate examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO), an official said on Friday in Yenagoa.
Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa Governor in a statement attributed the feat to the massive investment of N50 billion in education in the past five years by the state government.
Iworiso-Markson said that the state’s candidates recorded impressive performance in Mathematics, English and in the Sciences.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, who announced the release of the results in Minna, Niger State, said Ekiti, Edo and Bayelsa led in the examination nationwide.
According to NECO, Bayelsa came third with 84.52 per cent behind Edo 84.61 per cent and Ekiti with 85 per cent.
“The sterling performance is coming few weeks after Bayelsa, once classified as an educationally disadvantaged state emerged as the fifth best state in the May/June 2017 WAEC examination.
“The result released by the exam body showed clearly that candidates from Bayelsa did well in the core subjects such as English and Mathematics as well as in the science subjects, ’’ Iworiso-Markson.
According to him, the feat recorded by the state has justified the declaration of a state of emergency by Gov. Seriake Dickson in 2012 due to the deplorable condition of schools, lack of adequate and qualified teachers and learning aids.
