Olajengbesi Campaign Questions Wole Oke’s 20-Year Legislative Record
The Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO) has criticised the representation of the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency by Hon. Wole Oke, alleging a lack of significant developmental projects and calling for a change in leadership.
The organisation made the allegations in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, amid reported resignations of some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the constituency.
POCO also alleged that some of Oke’s aides had resorted to seeking support discreetly from residents, describing the development as an indication of declining political acceptance for the lawmaker.
The campaign organisation, which is backing Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, said residents of the constituency were demanding a new approach to representation after what it described as two decades of inadequate legislative and developmental impact.
It questioned the absence of what it considered landmark projects in the constituency, particularly a federal university, a federal medical centre and an industrial hub, which it claimed had been promised but not delivered.
According to POCO, effective legislative representation should go beyond attendance at parliamentary sittings to include lawmaking, constituency development and initiatives capable of improving the living conditions of residents.
The organisation further alleged that Oke’s legislative record had failed to produce significant outcomes for the constituency, claiming that his sponsorship of bills became more pronounced in 2023 amid growing public dissatisfaction.
POCO, however, did not provide specific details of the bills it referenced or supporting records for its claims about their legislative status.
The group also expressed concern over the condition of the Military Games Village in Esa-Oke, which it said Oke facilitated in 2010, alleging that the facility had deteriorated and was no longer serving its intended developmental purpose.
It further criticised what it described as the absence of legacy educational projects in Oriade/Obokun, while alleging that the lawmaker had established private schools in Abuja, Ibadan and Osogbo.
Beyond questions of development, POCO accused Oke of displaying an attitude of political entitlement and disrespect towards traditional rulers and community leaders in the constituency.
The organisation said the constituency needed a representative who would prioritise humility, effective lawmaking, community engagement and sustainable development.
It called on residents to support a new generation of leadership, presenting Olajengbesi as an alternative capable of providing what it described as more responsive and people-oriented representation.
“The era of landlord politics is over. The era of servant-leadership begins,” the statement declared.
POCO maintained that the political developments in Oriade/Obokun reflected a growing demand for change, urging constituents to embrace what it described as a new path towards development and prosperity.
The allegations and criticisms contained in the statement represent POCO’s position. Oke’s response to the claims was not included in the statement.
