According to a statement signed the Corps Public Relations Officer, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, Olalere, a herbalist from Gbongan, was arrested for allegedly conspiring with armed robbers and providing them with traditional charms intended to aid their criminal operations.
He was reportedly apprehended alongside Yinusa, also from Gbongan, who was accused of involvement in a shop burglary in the town. The Corps described Yinusa as an ex-convict who had previously served a prison term for motorcycle theft.
The two suspects allegedly admitted to their involvement in the offences during preliminary investigations, according to the Corps.
In a separate incident, Azeez, from Modakeke, was arrested over the alleged theft of a gas cylinder and other items in the community. The Corps stated that he had previously been convicted of a similar offence and had served a jail term.
Azeez reportedly admitted to the latest alleged offence during interrogation by the operatives.
In another development, Moses and Lawrence, both indigenes of Benue State residing in Ipinrindo, Atakumosa East Local Government Area, were arrested over the alleged theft of iron rods from the local government secretariat.
The Corps alleged that Moses confessed to participating in the theft, disclosing that the stolen iron rods, estimated to be worth between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000, were sold to scrap dealers for amounts ranging from ₦4,000 to ₦5,000.
The Corps said the suspects made statements concerning their alleged involvement in the incident during the investigation.
Confirming the arrests, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, told journalists in Osogbo that the suspects were apprehended at different locations following complaints lodged with the command.
Omoyele said operatives promptly responded to the complaints, leading to the arrests at the suspects’ alleged hideouts and locations connected to the reported offences.
He added that preliminary investigations had yielded admissions from some of the suspects, while some had reportedly provided information identifying other individuals allegedly connected to the incidents.
The Corps Commander urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime, identifying security threats and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He stressed that public cooperation remained essential to strengthening security operations and sustaining peace in Osun State.
The five suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
