The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl inside a tinted vehicle at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park, Abuja.

The police said the girl was also found to be about three months pregnant, following a medical examination conducted after she was rescued.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the suspect was arrested by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit on Friday, October 2, 2026.

According to the statement, the operatives were on routine patrol around the taxi park when they noticed a navy-blue Volkswagen with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.

The police said officers became suspicious after observing that the vehicle was shaking and subsequently approached it to ascertain what was happening.

Upon opening the vehicle, the officers allegedly found Halilu sexually abusing the minor, leading to his immediate arrest and the rescue of the girl.

The command said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle at the location.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly threatened the girl against disclosing the abuse to anyone.

The statement added that a medical examination conducted on the victim indicated that she was approximately three months pregnant.

The police said the victim was receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remained in custody pending the conclusion of investigation.

The command said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children under their care.

The command also called on members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through the appropriate emergency channels.
