Oluremi Tinubu Demands Stronger Protection for Schools, Students

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for stronger measures to protect schools, teachers and students from attacks, warning that insecurity in educational institutions poses a serious threat to the future of Nigerian children.

Mrs Tinubu made the call on Wednesday in a message commemorating the 2026 International Day to Protect Education from Attack, observed under the theme, “Education Can Survive Attack.”

The First Lady, who described herself as an educationist, said schools provide a vital environment where children discover their potential, nurture their aspirations and build hope for the future.

She, however, warned that attacks targeting schools, teachers and students go beyond disrupting academic activities, stressing that they could undermine the future of entire communities.

“Every attack on a school, teacher, or student threatens the future of our children and communities,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu urged governments, security agencies, school authorities, parents, communities and other stakeholders to work collectively towards securing schools and creating safe learning environments for children.

She also called for greater support and protection for teachers, noting that educators cannot effectively perform their responsibilities in unsafe environments.

According to her, protecting education must remain a collective responsibility, particularly at a time when insecurity continues to pose challenges to access to quality education in some parts of the country.

She said safeguarding schools and ensuring that children can learn without fear were essential to preserving hope and building a better future for Nigeria.

Mrs Tinubu further reaffirmed the importance of protecting every child’s right to education, urging stakeholders to take concrete steps to ensure that schools remain safe spaces for learning, growth and development.
