The Osun State Government has raised the alarm over alleged plans by some stakeholders to trigger fresh crises across local government councils and motor parks in the state, urging all parties to desist from actions capable of threatening public peace.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, raised the concern in a statement issued on Sunday, stressing the need for post-election reconciliation, healing and peace-building across the state.

Alimi warned that any attempt to ignite another round of violence in the state must be stopped immediately, noting that Osun requires peace and stability to achieve meaningful development.

He said, “The Osun election has been won and lost. Mr President and Mr Governor have engaged on a peaceful way forward. Any push towards violence represents an affront on the Presidency and the Nigerian Constitution.”

The commissioner expressed concern over alleged immediate post-election disruptions in some parts of the state, urging residents and stakeholders to allow the restoration of peaceful coexistence and rule-based interactions across all sectors.

According to him, political actors must embrace dialogue and reconciliation rather than actions capable of plunging the state back into conflict.

He said Osun should now be entering a period of healing and rebuilding, warning against any attempt to return the state to the pre-election era characterised by killings, violence and heightened political tension.

Alimi also expressed the government’s condolences to families and communities affected by pre-election tensions and violence, calling on residents to work collectively towards healing and reconciliation.

He further appealed to security agencies to enforce the rule of law and ensure the release of political detainees, while calling for an end to what he described as perceived partisan policing, particularly in the management of local government councils and motor parks.

The commissioner urged all political and community stakeholders to place the peace and development of Osun above partisan interests, stressing that the state could only progress in an atmosphere of stability, justice and mutual respect.
