Rescue Of Oriire Abductees Shows Nigeria Can Defeat Insecurity — Asiwaju Musulumi, Badmus
The Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus, has described the rescue of the 44 students and teachers abducted by bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s capacity to tackle kidnapping and banditry across the country.
Badmus stated this in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo, Osun State, a copy which was made available to New Telegraph.
He expressed delight over the safe rescue of the victims and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies and the Oyo State Government for their efforts in ensuring their release.
According to him, the successful operation should serve as encouragement for security agencies to intensify efforts towards eliminating kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.
The Islamic leader urged the government to provide adequate medical, psychological and social support for the rescued victims to help them recover from the trauma they experienced while in captivity.
He also called on the authorities to pay special attention to the family of the late teacher, Mr Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the abductors during the incident, noting that the deceased was the family’s breadwinner.
He appealed to the government to provide both emotional and material support to his widow and other family members.
Badmus further urged leaders and residents across Yorubaland to work closely with the government and security agencies to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to sustain efforts towards securing the release of other Nigerians still being held captive in different parts of the country, stressing that they should be reunited with their families and given the necessary care after their rescue.
“Oyedokun’s wife and family should be rehabilitated emotionally and materially as the teacher was the breadwinner for his family
“I want to call on all leaders and the people in Yorubaland to cooperate with one another and the government to forestall a re occurrence of the unpalatable development.
And I want to urge the federal government to ensure that all other Nigerians in captivity in any part of Nigeria are released , treated, and reunited with their loved ones” , he said
