The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West Senatorial District, Hon. Oluremi Akintola Omolaoye, has said the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has no history or track record of violence.

Omolaoye stated this amid concerns over recent political tension and sporadic gunshots recorded in Ile-Ife after the APC “Walk to Win” rally.

He spoke during the Osun West Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s district office in Iwo on Thursday, where party leaders and members resolved to close ranks and work together ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

According to him, reports of unrest and gunshots in parts of the state should not be linked to the APC, insisting that the party is known for peace and respect for human lives.

“The sporadic gunshots I read about might be politically motivated, but I believe the security outfits must be on top of the situation by now. We implore every citizen and resident of Osun State to remain calm because all the unrest being perceived has subsided,” he said.

Speaking on allegations linking the APC to violence, Omolaoye maintained that the progressive camp has never been associated with political violence.

“AMBO is a gentleman and if you check the history of violence, you cannot at any point trace it to the progressive class at all. The sporadic gunshots experienced in Ife could never have been traced to APC. We are not known for that,” he said.

“We are known for peace. We are known for serenity. We are known for friendship. We are known for respect of humanity and the sanctity of lives,” he added.

The APC chieftain also expressed confidence in the ability of the party’s governorship candidate to tackle insecurity and ensure adequate protection of lives and property if elected governor.

“I don’t doubt him. I believe that all things will be put in place to ensure that security is maintained and lives and property are well protected under his government,” he stated.

Omolaoye explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was convened to strengthen unity within the party and mobilise support for the APC ahead of the governorship election.

“The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that our house is put in order, especially in Osun West Senatorial District, where we have, by the grace of God, our God-blessed candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,” he said.

He urged aggrieved party members to bury their differences and support the party’s candidates for electoral success.

“Let us bury our hatchets, let us put our house in order to make sure we have a big vote for our incoming governor come August 15. Nobody should be angry. Let us put all anger behind us and support the selected candidates,” he said.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Omolaoye, party leaders and stakeholders resolved to “close ranks within the party and move forward for electoral success,” while urging members to work with “one spirit under a united party.”

The communiqué also called on party leadership across the three federal constituencies in Osun West to complement the efforts of the decentralised campaign committees constituted by the party.

It further prayed for electoral victories for the APC in the Osun governorship election, other future elections and the 2027 presidential election.

Also speaking at the meeting, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bade Falade, said the gathering was organised to mobilise party members and reconcile aggrieved stakeholders after the party’s primary election.

“The purpose of this meeting is to appeal to people who feel dissatisfied with the last primary exercise, that we should all come together, work together and ensure victory for our party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” he said.

Falade expressed confidence that Osun West would deliver massive support for the APC candidate at the poll.

“Osun West is where our candidate comes from and we are resolute and committed to delivering Osun West to him. This is the turn of Osun West to produce a progressive government and we are solidly behind this mandate,” he stated.

Speaking on the issue of political violence, the former lawmaker said security agencies were already handling the situation while assuring that APC members would remain law-abiding.

“You cannot underestimate the issue of political violence at this critical point in time. I want to assure you that law enforcement agents are in charge and, on our part as a party, we are talking to our members to be law-abiding,” he said.

Falade further described AMBO as the most qualified among the aspirants that contested the APC governorship primary, citing his experience in governance and finance.

“He was formerly Commissioner for Finance in the state and also worked in the banking sector as a financial manager. I think he will be a good governor,” he added.

Also speaking, one of the APC senatorial aspirants in Osun West, Brigadier General B.B. Adewinbi (retd.), urged members to remain united behind the party’s governorship candidate.

“AMBO is the one destined to be in Government House. By the grace of God, he will be there,” Adewinbi said.
