Deji of Akure dismisses rumoured Akure curfew, warns against fake news

The palace of the Deji of Akure has dismissed reports alleging that a traditional curfew would be imposed across Akure metropolis, describing the information as false and misleading.

This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure, Adeyeye Michael, in a statement issued on Friday.

In the statement, the palace clarified that the rumour making the rounds did not emanate from the Deji’s palace and should be disregarded by residents.

“The attention of the palace of the Deji of Akure Land has been drawn to a rumour flying around that there will be a traditional curfew within Akure metropolis today,” the statement read.

“We wish to state categorically that such information is untrue and does not emanate from the palace,” it added.

The palace further warned that the false information was capable of causing unnecessary panic and unrest among residents of the state capital.

“We urge the general public to disregard such rumour which is meant to cause unnecessary panic and unrest among residents of Akure,” the palace stated.

The palace also advised residents to continue with their lawful activities without fear, warning individuals spreading fake news to desist or face consequences.
