Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman, Ward 7, of the PDP in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mimiko said: “I am tendering my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective from April 10, 2026.”

Mimiko, who has largely been away from partisan politics for a while, in the resignation letter said: “Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”

The former governor, who had been in and out of the PDP, said he took the decision “without animosity toward anyone.”

Sources said Mimiko is on his way to the All Progressives Congress (APC), having met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top leaders of the party.

In the run-up to the last governorship election, Mimiko did not support the candidate of the PDP, Hon Agboola Ajayi, just as his supporters threw their weight behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Also, Mimiko’s core loyalists, including Hon Iranola Joseph Akinlaja, Hon Alaba Lad Ojomo, Engineer Gboye Adegbenro, Rt Hon Jumoke Akindele, Jide Adejuyigbe, Ms Taiwo Afilaka, Chief Mrs Funmilola Oluwadare, Hon Oladipupo Ajani, Com Solomon Adelegan, Comrade Femi Bosede, Hon Adesoji Ayenuro, and Eni Akinsola, among others, had joined the APC and subsequently worked for the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa.

The Chief Press Secretary to Mimiko Eni Akinsola said, “It is true that the former governor has formally turned in his resignation letter from the PDP,” but did not volunteer any further information.
