Tinubu Congratulates Benin Republic President-elect
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Romuald Wadagni on his election as President of the Republic of Benin, describing his victory as a reflection of the Beninese people’s confidence in his leadership.
Wadagni, who currently serves as Benin’s Minister of Finance, won the presidential election held on April 12 with what officials described as an overwhelming majority.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the election’s outcome demonstrated the trust citizens have placed in Wadagni’s vision and his record in public service.
“The victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” the President said in a congratulatory letter to the president-elect.
Tinubu also commended the government and people of the Benin Republic for conducting a peaceful election, noting that the country’s democratic process was a testament to its stability and political maturity.
He emphasised the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the Benin Republic, describing both countries as close neighbours with shared cultural and historical ties.
“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation,” Tinubu said, adding that he looked forward to working with the incoming administration to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance regional security, and promote economic growth within ECOWAS and the African Union.
The President assured Wadagni of Nigeria’s continued support as he prepares to assume office, wishing him success in his new role.
