Osun 2026: Oyebamiji Visits Ooni, Promises Not To Betray Public Trust
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to uphold the trust of the people and deliver good governance if elected in the August 15, 2026 poll.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at his palace in Ile-Ife, where he sought royal blessings ahead of the commencement of his campaign.
Speaking during the visit, the APC flagbearer commended the monarch for his steadfast commitment to promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage.
He explained that his decision to visit the palace was in line with the advice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before embarking on his governorship campaign.
According to Oyebamiji, the President highlighted the historical significance of Ile-Ife as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, noting that past leaders, including the late sage Obafemi Awolowo, drew strength and success from ancestral blessings received there.
“I informed Mr. President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me to do so, stressing the importance of blessings from this ancient throne,” Oyebamiji said.
Reaffirming his commitment to the people of Osun State, he assured the monarch and residents of Ile-Ife that his administration, if elected, would prioritise development and remain accountable.
“We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign. Ile-Ife remains the source of our tradition, and its support is vital. I will not betray the trust of the people and will work tirelessly for the progress of Ife and Osun State at large,” he added.
In his response, the Ooni commended Oyebamiji for demonstrating humility, discipline, and respect for traditional institutions, describing these as essential qualities of effective leadership.
He stressed that leadership is a call to service and sacrifice, urging political actors to embrace unity and avoid actions that could deepen divisions.
The monarch also called for reconciliation among aggrieved members within political parties, noting that peace and cohesion are critical for progress. While reaffirming the neutrality of the traditional institution in partisan politics, he emphasised the need for harmony across party lines.
“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key, and grievances must be resolved through dialogue. After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” he advised.
The Ooni further offered special prayers for Oyebamiji, seeking divine guidance, wisdom, and success for him ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Oyebamiji was accompanied on the visit by his running mate, Kayode Adereti; the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal; and other party leaders and supporters. The delegation was received by the Ooni alongside the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, and other dignitaries.
