Court Stops Planned Burial Of Asiwaju Of Ifetedo, Chief Ayanbeku

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile- Ife, Osun State, has stopped the burial arrangements of Chief Moses Ayanbeku, Asiwaju of Ifetedo.

The presiding jidge, Justice A.O Adeniji further bars the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, from releasing the remains/corpse of Chief Moses Ayanbeku to the family or any of their representatives.

The late Chief Moses Ayanbeku’s burial has earlier scheduled to hold between 22nd – 26th April,2026.

The claimant, Mrs. Gifty Ayangunilayo Fagunwa Nee Ayanbeku approached the court and prayed the court to stop the proposed burial arrangements/rites.

All her five prayers were granted including barring the Church, Registered Trustees of Ife Diocese, Angelican Communion and its Bishop, RT Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade from conducting any burial services, burial rites or any religious ceremonies in tespect of the burial of Chief Moses Ayanbeku.

The court also barred Obafemi Awolowo University from releasing the remains/corpse of the Ayanbeku to his family for burial.

The order enrollment with suit No: HIF/17/2026 had 17 respondents including fourteen children and grandchildren led by Hon. Ayandiran Ayanbeku and the registered Trustees of Ife Diocese Angelican Communion, presiding Bishop of the communion and the Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Department of Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

According to the Certified True Copy of the orders received by our correspondent, “An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the 1st-14th defendants, their agents , privies, or anyone acting on their behalf from taking any further steps in the planning, preparation or conduct of the burial of the late Chief Moses Ayanromade Ayanbeku scheduled for 22nd-26th April, 2026 pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice ”

“An order is hereby granted restraining the 15th and 16th defendants (Registered Trustees of Ife Diocese, Angelican Communion and Rt. Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade) by themselves, their priests, officiating ministers , agents , or any person acting under their authority, from conducting any funeral service, burial rite, commendation service, or any religious ceremony whatsoever in respect of the burial of the late Chief Moses Ayanromade Ayanbeku (Asiwaju of Ifetedo) scheduled for 22nd-26th April,2026, or any other date pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice”

“An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the defendants, their agents , servants, representatives, privies and anybody howsoever from burying late Chief Moses Ayanromade Ayanbeku (Asiwaju of Ifetedo) on or about 22nd-26th April,2026 or at any date whatsoever and pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice ”

“An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the defendant (OAU), its staff, and officials from release the remains/corpse of the late Chief Moses Ayanromade Ayanbeku to the 1st- 14th defendants or any other person for the purpose of burial, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice ”

Hearing of the motion on notice is fixed for the 20th April, 2026.
