Three Ondo Farmers Reportedly Killed As Youth Group Calls For Urgent Action
The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC) has condemned the reported killing of three farmers by suspected herdsmen in Ala Igbatoro, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, calling for immediate government and security intervention.
In a statement by its National Director of Information, Comrade Afe Adegboyega Ezekiel, also known as Erosion, the group described the attack as heartbreaking and barbaric, lamenting the rising insecurity threatening rural communities in the state.
He said the murder of the farmers was a painful reminder that many farming communities remain unsafe despite assurances from security agencies.
“It is disheartening to see that while innocent lives are being lost, some members of the Amotekun Corps are busy fighting their commander over appointment letters instead of focusing on their primary duty of securing our people,” he stated.
Erosion urged Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Chairman of Akure North Local Government, and the area’s representative in the State House of Assembly to act swiftly to ensure justice for the victims.
He stressed that decisive action was needed to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence in the government’s ability to protect its citizens.
“Our farmers are the backbone of local food production. When they can no longer go to their farms without fear, our collective survival as a people is threatened,” he added.
The SNYC also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilante groups to strengthen intelligence gathering and safeguard rural communities.
