APC Alleges Looting Of FG’s Hospital Equipment In Osogbo, Urges Probe
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to investigate the alleged looting of medical equipment from the Federal Mother and Child Care Hospital in Oke-Oniti, Osogbo. The party accused officials of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of diverting the equipment for accreditation purposes at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH).
In a statement signed on Monday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that the Adeleke-led government moved equipment from the federal facility in Oke-Oniti to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in anticipation of a postgraduate accreditation exercise.
The Mother and Child Care Hospital in Osogbo was commissioned in 2022 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative of former President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed at improving maternal and child health in Osun State. At commissioning, the hospital had a capacity of over 100 beds, four labour rooms, operating theatres, VIP wards, and fully equipped offices.

The opposition party lamented that the state government had allowed the centre to deteriorate, claiming that equipment installed at the facility was being looted by state officials in an attempt to fraudulently credit the government with improved infrastructure.
Olabisi questioned why the centre had been abandoned for three years without power supply or health professionals, stating: “Why did the state government remove equipment from a federal government facility to shore up its infrastructural deficiencies? Why didn’t the state government purchase its own equipment? This raises serious concerns about the commitment of the Adeleke administration to the health needs of citizens.”
However, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, dismissed the allegations of looting, insisting that the transfer was carried out following due process, with inventories taken and security agencies fully involved.
The CMD also said the management had not abandoned the Oke-Oniti facility, noting that the hospital spends about N800,000 monthly on security personnel, has repaired storm-damaged structures five to six times, and plans to solarise the complex to address its power challenges.
Afolabi further disclosed that the state government has approved the recruitment of medical personnel to enable the full utilisation of the facility.
