APC To PDP: Stop Misleading Osun People, Our Appeal Pending In Court

By Favour Odanye, Osogbo

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for travelling out of Nigeria for the preparation of the wedding ceremony of his nephew, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, in the United States of America for over two weeks.

In a press statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, APC described Adeleke’s stated reason for travelling as “flimsy, puerile, and irritating” to the people of Osun State.

The APC accused Governor Adeleke of abandoning his constitutional responsibilities and sneaking out of the country for over two weeks without any official communication to the public.

“It is disheartening that a governor can abandon his statutory duties by sneaking out of the state for over two weeks without deeming it fit to inform the good people of the state

“The reason given by Governor Adeleke for abandoning the state for over two weeks running that he was attending to the preparation of his nephew’s wedding anniversary was horrendous, obnoxious and an insult on the sensibility of the people of Osun State

“If Governor Adeleke could abscond from the country for over two weeks running because of his nephew’s wedding ceremony, for how many months would he abdicate his constitutional responsibilities if it were to be B-Red, his son, that is getting married?”, Olabisi asked

He claimed that the governor’s justification only came after he was “smoked out” and pressured to disclose his whereabouts.

Olabisi questioned the Adeleke’s priorities, noting that rather than addressing critical issues within the state particularly the six-month-long industrial action by the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Adeleke chose to “frolic abroad under the guise of planning a wedding.”

He also decried the impact of the ongoing NULGE strike, which he said has crippled local government operations across Osun, while Adeleke continues to demonstrate no visible commitment to resolving the matter.

Olabisi further cited the unresolved political tension between the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and the traditional ruler of his hometown, the Alashi of Ashi, as another example of leadership negligence under Adeleke’s watch.

He also expressed alarm that not only is Governor Adeleke currently absent from the state, but so are key government figures including Speaker Egbedun and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye.

However, Olabisi urged the populace to condemn what he described as Adeleke’s lackadaisical approach to governance, stressing that “after all, he applied for the job.”

He also expressed fears that the governor may be spending the state’s already scarce resources to fund what he termed “an exuberant lifestyle” in the United States, adding that Adeleke has turned governance into a mere theatrical show rather than a serious responsibility.

“If the founding fathers and those saddled with the responsibility of running the public affairs of the United States of America have the traits of laissez-faire attitude in the public office, would they have built a great country where Adeleke is always finding suitable and auspicious to hibernate”, he asked.
