Panic gripped the community of Ilisan Remo on Thursday evening as unknown gunmen abducted Mrs Elizabeth Uruakpa, a 66-year-old Assistant Chief Nursing Officer with the Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

Mrs. Uruakpa was reportedly returning from an evening church service when the assailants, who had laid an ambush, struck near the entrance of her residence behind the new Ilisan market.

Witnesses told PUNCH that the gunmen swiftly dragged her out of her vehicle and forced her into their red Toyota car before speeding off.

A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity told PUNCH that, “It happened around 7 p.m. She was just returning from church when the gunmen abducted her. I know her well; she’s a senior nurse at Babcock University Teaching Hospital and a member of Winners’ Chapel. They took her away like lightning, it was shocking, and such a thing has never happened here before.”

Confirming the incident, the university’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, said, “I heard about it last night. It was shared on one of the university’s platforms, but I don’t have a comprehensive report yet. We’re working on gathering more information.”

Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as calls to her mobile number went unanswered, and messages sent to her lines had not been replied to at the time of filing this report.
