Protest Rocks Akure Over EFCC Raid On Nightclubs
Social and commercial activities were paralyzed in the Alagbaka area of Akure, the Ondo State capital when some youth protested the incessant harassment by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The youth sat on the major road leading to the governor’s office and banks’ route preventing the free flow of traffic and disrupting business activities in the Government Reserve Area.
The operatives of the EFCC stormed the popular night clubs in Akure, over the weekend, raiding the fun-seekers including a groom who was having bachelor’s eve with his friends.
Speaking on behalf of the protesting youth, Oluwaseun Ogunmola, said the raid by the anti-graft agency was in defiance of its ban on night operations.
Ogunmola demanded that those arrested and profiled as who are not internet fraudsters in the night clubs should be released unconditionally.
Another leader of the youth, Tobi Akinnubi said; “In Nigeria now, youths cannot use phones or laptops, they can’t drive cars because EFCC sees them as fraudsters. Our ladies have taken away, Have they committed any offense? This is pure brutality. Enough is enough and we must put an end to this.
“We demand justice on this actions, the Federal Government should please look into this case because we can’t continue like this.”
The protesters complained of brutality by EFCC during the night raids.
