The Anambra Government has set up a panel of inquiry into the controversy trailing the high score of a candidate from the state, in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education in the state announced the panel’s assignment in a statement in Awka on Monday.

“A panel of inquiry has been set up to work with security agents to investigate the allegation of falsification of result levelled against Mmesoma Ejikeme, who had earlier been showcased on social media as having scored the highest,” she said.

The Commissioner described the controversy on the Ejikeme’s actual result as embarrassing, especially coming at a time when Governor Chukwuma Soludo was repositioning the education sector in Anambra.

Recall that following the release of the 2023 UTME results by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, JAMB, recently, Mmesoma Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School Uruagu in Nnewi, was celebrated for allegedly emerging with the highest score of 362 from the examination.

However, JAMB, in a statement, claimed the girl’s result was fake and falsified using internet software.

JAMB alleged on Sunday that Ejikeme inflated her actual score at the exams from 249 to 362, raising controversy as to the possibility of that malpractice.

While the Anambra State government has commenced an investigation into the alleged falsification by Mmesoma Ejikeme, it has commended Nkechinyere Umeh who JAMB declared the highest scorer nationwide in the examination with a cumulative mark of 360.
