Pharmaceutical Workers, Security Men Steal Products Worth N56 Million

The police detectives attached to the Anti Kidnapping Unit of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos have arrested five workers of the Peakins Pharmaceutical Company Limited for allegedly stealing the company’s products worth N56 million.

According to a press release by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officers of the Command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspects have been arraigned at a magistrate court in Lagos on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The names of the suspects are: Emmanuel Okechukwu, Ikechukwu Orji, Chisom Azubuke, who were pharmaceutical staffs and Uchechukwu Ofoepeka and Goddy Ogobi who were security men.

Products allegedly by the suspects are: 120 cartons of Lonarts Ds Tablets valued at N39, 780, 000, 200 cartons of Funbact A worth N16 million and five cartons of P-Alaxin tablets valued at N200, 000. The total valued of the alleged stolen products was N55, 980, 000.

It was gathered that the Chief Executive Officer of the Peakins Pharmaceutical Company, Mr Isaac Ugwu had on October 10, 2016 had reported a case of conspiracy and stealing of pharmaceutical products through a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos.

Ugwu, according to the press release, alleged that he caught one of his staff, Okechukwu, with a carton of Funbact ‘A’ valued over N400, 000 stolen from his warehouse sometime in the month of October, 2016.

Acting on the petition, the police arrested Okechukwu for investigation which later led to the arrest of the other suspects.

The press statement stated that the AIG of Zone 2 Command Lagos, Mr Abdulmajid Ali, condemned what he described as cruel act at this time when many manufacturers are struggling to sustain their businesses.

Ali, therefore, urged industrialists and businessmen and women to carry out security check or test on their intending employees to avoid such criminal act.
