Nigeria: Foundation Gives Lifeline To Widows

An Osun-based non governmental organization (NGO), Prince Alade Lamuye Foundation, recently showed love to over one hundred and fifty widows from various states in Southwest.

The widows were empowered with some useful items such as ; Grinding Machines, Hair dryer, Sewing machines, Pop corn machines and cash to set up new businesses or grow existing ones at an event in Iwo, Osun state.

The founder of PAL, Barr (Mrs) Funmi Lamuye said she was inspired to establish the NGO and start philanthropic activities in order to give back to the society and to immortalize her late father who passed on eleven years ago.

Barr Lamuye who vowed to continue to put smiles on the faces of less privileges said the empowerment programme was to improve standard of living of the women and children in the society.

Emphasizing the importance of giving back to the vulnerable in the society in manner that would contribute to the economy of the country, Mrs Lamuye said the windows were empowered irrespective of their religious or political affiliation.

Barr Lamuye, who is just completed her term as a commissioner at the National Assembly Service Commission charged well meaning Nigerians to assist widows and needy in the society to safe their family.

She said that the empowerment programme which is the maiden edition would be a yearly event that will assist the needy in the southwest.

According to her ” I’m doing this because I believe that to whom much is given, much is expected and if I have been privileged to be chosen out of so many to represent the southwest, then I must not be selfish, I must give back to the society

“I thank the whole of the southwest women for the privilege of representing them as a commissioner at the National Assembly Service commission”

The selection of beneficiaries was not on political basis because we chose from all the political parties that are on Ground in Osun state and the southwest states ,we used religious basis as well from both the churches and the mosques “she said

She implored the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to take care of their family, “am only asking that these women should not sell this items, it is to empower them, they should use it to proceed on live.

They should train their children for the future purpose. This event will be an annual event to bless the lives of the vulnerable in the society “she stressed.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs Ruth Samson and Toyin Tijani expressed gratitude to the foundation,  promising that they will make judicious use of the items given to them to help their families.

They said “what Hon Lamuye has done for us, widows is a great honour, she has lifted the spirit of the widows, she knows our sufferings and pains and has decided to bless us, May God bless her as well .Her good works will continue to speak for her always ‘they prayed.
