Why I Almost Quit Football At 21 – Victor Boniface
Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface says he almost quit football at 21 after sustaining an injury two weeks after signing with Norwegian club, FK Bodø/Glimt in 2019.
The 23-year-old described his stint in Norway as “chaotic,” saying he had more “bad stories than good stories”.
“I spent about three years in Norway. We won the league twice, came second one time. But football wise, it was chaotic for me. It was really bad for me. I think I have more bad stories than good stories there,” Boniface said via Skype in the latest episode of Mikel Obi’s podcast.
“But that’s life, you know. I got an ACL injury two weeks after signing in Norway. I almost quit football at the age of 21.”
He also disclosed during the interview that before moving to Europe, he was a midfielder.
Boniface recently bemoaned his constant struggles with injuries after he picked an injury that ruled him out of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
On his X handle, he lamented: “U20 Nations Cup got injured 7 days before Nations cup.
“Super Eagles got injured 6 days before Nations Cup.
“Na Only God Knows why.”
