Coronvirus: NURTW Sensitizes Members, Assures Safety of Passengers

The Chairman of National Union of Roads Transport Workers, (NURTW) Osun State and Southwest, Alhaji Lekan Salami has urged residents of the state who would be traveling from Osogbo to other neighboring states not to panic over the coronavirus pandemic, saying the union has embarked on Sensitisation of members about preventive interventions to keep the virus at bay.

Salami gave the assurance while fielding questions from Journalists in his office in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The NURTW Boss said following confirmed case of the dreaded disease Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in Lagos, Nigeria and the ravaging effects of the virus scourge across many countries of the world, the leadership of the union has deemed it necessary to educate commercial drivers on the need to maintain high level of hygiene during the course of their duties.

He said due to the nature of their job, there was not way they could not relate with people especially passengers on daily basis, hence , the need for regular enlightenment of their members on how to relate with passengers and other people around them.

He said upon the preventive measures, they recommended frequent hand washing, using handkerchief, tissue paper or covering the upper arm while coughing or sneezing, staying away from passengers when sick in order to prevent/reduce transmission of communicable diseases, including flu.

He further said it has become imperative to sensitize their members because the outbreak was in Lagos and Ogun, which is just some few hours drive to Osun State.

CityMirrorNews reports that Corona virus also known as COVID 19 is a new viral illness that was first detected in China in December 2019 and it has spread to many countries.
