Osun LGSC Boss Says IPSAS Will Promote Transparency, Accountability
Heads of Departments in the Local Government Service in Osun State have been admonished to acquiant themselves with the use of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) in preparation of account statements in order to enhance quality service delivery, transparency and accountability in their services at their LGAs.
The Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Elder Tunde Adedeji gave the admonition during a sensitization programme on exposure to basic requirements of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS), held at Local Government Service Commission’s Multipurpose Hall, new Secretariat.
The chairman who was represented by the Coordinating Director of the agency, Barrister Lekan Babalola said the process is necessary because it promotes accountability and transparency saying management staff are expected to implement it so as to have value for money spent by the government .
He further noted that International Public Sector Accounting Dtandard is in line with International Best Practice that will ensure comparability and security Political economic leverage.
Speaking on the topic, the Auditor General for Local Government ,Mr Emmanuel Kolapo said the IPSAS is a set of accounting standard for the use of public sector entities around the world in preparation of financial statement adding that one of the benefits of IPSAS is that it enhances operation reports.
Mr Kolapo stressed that will help in greater disclosure vwhich will bprovide information for better decision making which in turn will lead to better use of public resources.
