By Ademola Lawal
The Co-ordinating Director in the Ministry of Local Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ayobami Akinpelu, has charged the Heads of
Budget and Finance in the Local Governments and Local Council
Development Areas in Osun state to let transparency and accountability be their watchword while preparing the year 2020 budget for the progress of the state.
Akinpelu gave the charge while declaring open a two-day
interactive session on the preparation of year 2020 estimates at the
Conference Hall of the ministry.
According to him, the exercise is to assist them on technical issues
that are involved in the preparation of the estimate.
The CD posited that the career officers, being the engine room of
government should be well equipped with knowledge and technicalities
needed for proper planning and the economic development of the state.
In order to be in line with international best practices, the Director enjoined the Heads of Budget and Finance to ensure that the budget
they would prepare complies with International Public Sector Accounting
Standards.
He said the prime concern of the administration of Mr. Adegboyega
Oyetola was to ensure good governance and security of lives and
property of the entire citizenry, adding that the government at the
local level should key in into this objective for the benefit of their
people.
Akinpelu emphasized that whatever the administrations at the
grassroots have in plan for their people should transform into
budgetary provisions, saying that there is no room for extra budgetary
spending.
