Osun 2018: UNDP Workshop Participants Charge Politicians To Play The Game According To Rules

It has been agreed that the jumbo pay and allowances of politicians have made politics a do or die affair.

This came to the fore at the second day of a workshop organized by the United Nations Development Program in respect of the September 22 governorship election in the state.

The session was anchored by Mr Emmanuel Momoh, one of the UNDP resource persons.

The participants stressed that if the pays are moderate, people will see politics as an avenue to serve.

The forum also put part of the blame on voters who demand money from politicians before casting their votes, noting that if electorates can shun moneybags in politics, society can elect people who will work to uplift their communities.

The high level dialogue for stakeholders in the coming election in Osun took a swipe at politicians who use election period to reach out to the electorates in terms of money instead of rendering services to their communities far ahead of elections.

The meeting which had in attendance monarchs and representatives of some political parties also appealed to INEC and Security Agents to see themselves as critical and instrumental in election projects.

The People of Osun State were also advised to stop putting financial pressure on politicians, affirming that the pressure to meet people’s individual needs makes politicians steal public funds preparatory to another election.
