Ospoly Commences Vocational and Technical Education Programmes

Sequel to the directive of the Governing Council of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, in line with the vision of the state Government of Osun, Management of the institution has commenced Vocational and Technical Education and Remedial Programmes in the Polytechnic.
This is disclosed in a release signed by the Media Officer of the Institution, Mr. Tope Abiola and made available to CityMirrorNews on Friday February 12, 2016 in Osogbo.
The release states that the Rector of the Institution, Dr. Olusola Agboola declared that “the commencement of the programme was part of the institution’s drive to complement the efforts of the Government of the State of Osun in its bid to improve the Vocational and Entrepreneurship Skills of the people in the State”

Dr. Agboola stated that the programmes are specifically designed for artisans and young school leavers in the state to enrich their knowledge and skills in their various vocations.

Such programmes include: Welding and Fabrication, Brick Laying & Block Making, Interlocking, Arts and Design, Electrical Installation, Printing, Bread Making/ Wire works, Soap and Dis-infectants, Computer Training, Video and Photography, and Agricultural related courses

The Rector added that the Center for Entrepreneurship and Vocational Training of the Institution has series of state of the art equipment that would be used to train the applicants in their various disciplines, adding that the center is open to members of the public who desire apprenticeship in the afore-mentioned vocations.

He said that “at the end of the programmes, the trainees who would have acquired living-able skills would be awarded certificates in their various course(s) of choice”.

Dr. Agboola also stated that a Center for Remedial Studies had also been put in place to provide short term Remedial Trainings for candidates who failed public examinations like West African Senior School Certificate Examination, National Examination Council Senior Certificate, and those who are preparing for their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. Such students, the Rector said would be tutored at the Continue Education Unit of the Institution.

The Rector also disclosed that the Information and Communication Centers (ICT) of the Institution which have 400 network computer systems are also open for Computer Based Test (CBT) applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

It would be re-called that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has charged all Polytechnics in the country to include Entrepreneurship Studies in their curricula. This policy is in line with the functional educational policy of the Mr. Rauf Aregbesola’s led government in Osun State.
