Man Arraigned Over Alleged N1.54m Unauthorised Bank Withdrawal
A 40-year-old phone engineer, Irebamide Kazeem, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court, Ondo State, for allegedly withdrawing N1.543 million from another person’s bank account without authorisation.
Kazeem was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraudulent withdrawal of money.
Police prosecutor, Oniyere Taiwo, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with other persons still at large to unlawfully gain access to the victim’s bank account and withdraw the money without the account holder’s consent.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence was committed at about 10 a.m. on July 9, 2026, at Ilaramokin, within the jurisdiction of the court.
Taiwo further told the court that the defendant was traced through tracking analysis following the alleged transaction.
He said the tracking exercise eventually led police operatives to Oyo State, where Kazeem was arrested.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State.
When the two counts were read to him in court, Kazeem pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, the prosecutor asked the court to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution present three witnesses to establish its case.
However, defence counsel, G.O. Bernard, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on liberal terms, arguing that he would be available to face trial.
The prosecution opposed the bail application and urged the court to exercise caution in considering the request.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently adjourned the case to a later date for ruling on the bail application and further proceedings.
The defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
