A Nostalgic Reunion: Celebrating Peace and Unity with Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola By Rotimi Makinde
Today, I had the privilege of visiting Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, a moment that rekindled a flood of cherished memories and reaffirmed our shared commitment to the people of Ile-Ife. This encounter was not just a reunion; it was a celebration of the journey we embarked on together in the realm of politics.
Many may not realize that my aspiration to serve the good people of Ile-Ife was ignited by my association with Aregbesola. His visionary leadership played a pivotal role in reviving progressive politics in Osun State, particularly through the establishment of the Oranmiyan Movement. It was under his guidance that many of us found our calling and purpose in public service.
I vividly recall the train ride from Lagos to Osogbo, a journey filled with anticipation and hope. However, it was also marked by challenges, including the infamous attack we endured at the Oroki Day celebration in Osogbo. These experiences were not just trials; they were stepping stones that strengthened our resolve to reclaim Osun State for the progressive fold.
Today’s visit was a timely reminder of our shared mission as crusaders for peace and unity. I took this opportunity to advocate for the values I hold dear: peace and unity. In a world often divided by differences, it is our responsibility to foster harmony and collaboration among our people.
As we reflect on our past and look towards the future, I remain optimistic that with continued efforts, things can only get better. Together, we can build a brighter and more united Osun State.
