2023: Why The Choice Of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu By the Northerners
By Rotimi Makinde
Let’s call a spade a spade. The basis of social relationships is reciprocity, if you cooperate with others, others will cooperate with you.
Those northerners supporting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Shetima or even Obi for president shall go down in history as those who cherish the unity of this great country. In the past, this same Asiwaju who believes in the oneness of this country led the South, and especially the West to ensure no politician came out against a northern candidate.
He chooses him among many other qualified citizens in the north and whipped us to support the north candidate and the person of Gen Muhammad Buhari against the like of Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal whom the like of me and Hon James Faleke, had earlier presented with a nomination form to contest 2015 presidential from the North not because of hatred but because of the overwhelming experience and the pedigree of the former head of state. He had gone around the country and were well placed to use our block vote as parliamentarians If not for the fact that our friend and our leader Rt. Hon Tambuwal was so convinced not to overheat the polity then we were home and dry with millions of our supporters across the country.
Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was so honorable with his decision as he humbled himself and enough to pull out of the contest for the respect he had for Sen Ahmed Tinubu and President Mohd Buhari. That was a great sacrifice for the nation.
Where then lies the love, where lies the patriotic reason to ensure this country remains united if by today we now think the presidency should remain in the very north after a solid 8 years and two terms of our dear Mr president from Katsina State?
Gov Wike, Engr Seyi Makinde and many others are not just picking offense after the PDP primary, they expected Okowa to lead in this game of seeking power rotation to the south, they are unhappy with the unfair approach of PDP, their party, and worried on the need for us as a nation to ensure unity and fairness basically with the balance of power.
We can think of Peter Obi as qualified because he is also from the south, and Alh Abubakar Atiku whom the same Asiwaju gave a soft land when his party was so hostile to him in the past is in the contest is the biggest surprise in the politics of Nigeria. Peter Obi can be tolerated but Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with his record in Lagos State compared to Obi of Anambra State is just incomparable. Obi is in the race for he’s qualified and his region is eminently worth the opportunity but not at this moment.
Nigeria needs an unbiased umpire, a non-tribalized and a well exposed economic guru like Asiwaju whom I believe in conjunction with Kazeem Shetima of Borno State, and with other eminent and patriotic northerners supporting this noble course which is even beyond Sen Tinubu’s ambition.
We are talking of many patriotic men who want the unity and rapid transformation of the nation’s economy, men of honor that are not limited to Gov El’ Rufai, Sen Abu Ibrahim, Gov Lalong, the APC party chairman Sen Ahmed Abdulahi, and many others that are just too many to be listed here. They are just the best team for us at this moment they require our unity of purpose as a nation.
Love occurs within a reciprocated relationship with another person, tribe, or region.
We are better as one united nation.
