APC, Accord Lock Horns Over Police Vehicle Donation In Osun
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party have locked horns over a plan by reinstated local government chairmen to donate vehicles to the police, with both sides divided over its intent and legality.
The Accord Party cautioned the Osun State Police Command against accepting the vehicles, alleging they were procured from diverted local government funds.
In a statement, the party’s chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, said the donation was part of a broader scheme to compromise the police and make them accomplices in the alleged diversion of funds.
However, the APC accused the Accord Party and the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of politicising security, insisting the move was aimed at protecting lives and property.
The APC, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, described the criticism as uncalled for and ill-motivated, maintaining that the council chairmen acted within their statutory responsibilities.
“We observe that the main problem of the Accord Party is not the laudable plan by the legally reinstated APC local government council chairmen to help the police in fighting crime across the state, but the fact that their proactive actions have exposed what it described as the Adeleke-led government’s failure in prioritising its constitutional responsibilities,” Olabisi said.
He added that it was an anomaly to politicise security matters, warning that such actions could undermine efforts to combat crime in the state.
