Troops Neutralise Scores Of ISWAP Terrorists, Repel Attack In Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base, Mandaragirau, in Sector 2, killing several insurgents in the process.

The attempted assault on the formation occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, but was swiftly countered by troops, who launched a coordinated offensive-defensive response, forcing the terrorists into a disorderly retreat.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support, alongside Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance to enhance precision targeting.

The Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, disclosed that follow-up operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted heavy casualties.

He said about 38 terrorists were neutralised, with eight bodies recovered at the scene, while local intelligence indicated that over 30 additional bodies were scattered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis leading into the Timbuktu Triangle.

Lt. Col Dani said that troops also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs and assorted ammunition abandoned by the fleeing insurgents. No fatalities were recorded among the troops, although one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle was hit by RPG fire.

Injured personnel were promptly stabilised.

The military noted that the scale of losses suffered by the insurgents has sparked jubilation among local communities, reaffirming the operational dominance of troops in the region.

Further exploitation operations are ongoing along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere corridor to recover more bodies and consolidate gains. The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing efforts to secure the North-East.
