Osun@35: ADC Reps Candidate, Ogunkanmi Urges Investment In Social Infrastructure, Youth Development

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Ayedire, Iwo and Olaoluwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi Abidemi, has congratulated the people of Osun State on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Ogunkanmi, a former Deputy Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly during the 7th Assembly, also called on the state government and other stakeholders to prioritise the provision of social infrastructure and strengthen youth development programmes across the state.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary, the former lawmaker said the occasion should go beyond celebration and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the progress made by the state and the challenges that still require urgent attention.

He stressed the need for greater investment in education, healthcare, good roads, water supply and other basic amenities, particularly in rural communities.

“As Osun marks 35 years, we must look beyond celebration and reflect deeply on how to build a state that works for every citizen. Social infrastructure such as quality schools, functional healthcare facilities, good roads, water supply and other basic amenities must receive greater attention,” he said.

Ogunkanmi described the youth population as a critical asset to the future of the state, urging the government and private-sector stakeholders to develop sustainable programmes that would equip young people with relevant skills and provide them with employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

“Our youths are the strength and future of Osun. We need deliberate and sustainable programmes that will equip them with relevant skills, create employment opportunities and support entrepreneurship,” he said.

“Youth development should not be treated as a political slogan but as a serious investment in the future of our state.”

The ADC candidate called on political leaders, traditional rulers, private-sector operators, civil society organisations and citizens to work together towards building a state where young people have the opportunity to realise their potential.

He said the 35th anniversary provided an opportunity for the people to renew their commitment to peace, unity, inclusive development and shared prosperity.

“I call on our political leaders, traditional rulers, private-sector stakeholders and citizens to join hands in building an Osun where every young person has the opportunity to succeed.

“The 35th anniversary provides us with an opportunity to renew our commitment to peace, inclusive development and a prosperous future for all,” Ogunkanmi added.

Reflecting on the history of the state, he said the anniversary was also an occasion to honour the vision, courage and sacrifices of those who contributed to the creation and development of Osun State.

“Today, we proudly celebrate the creation of Osun State and reflect on the journey that has shaped our dear state over the years.

“This anniversary is a time to honour the vision, courage, sacrifices and enduring legacy of our founding fathers, whose efforts laid the foundation upon which the Osun of today was built,” he said.

Ogunkanmi noted that Osun’s rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks and the resilience and creativity of its people remained important assets capable of driving sustainable development.

He urged the people to preserve the state’s cultural heritage while collectively working towards building a stronger economy and a more prosperous future for coming generations.

He expressed optimism that purposeful leadership, inclusive governance and sustained investment in human capital and infrastructure would place Osun on a stronger path of development.

Ogunkanmi wished all indigenes and residents of Osun State continued peace, prosperity and progress, praying that the state would continue to serve as a beacon of culture, peace and development.
