Kano Confirms 227 Cholera Cases, 15 Patients Critically Ill

The Kano State Government has confirmed 227 laboratory-tested cases of cholera amid an outbreak reported in parts of the state.

The Director-General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists in Kano.

Abbas said 15 of the confirmed patients were currently in critical condition and required specialised medical attention, while other patients were receiving treatment at designated health facilities across the state.

«“We have confirmed 227 cases of cholera, while 15 patients require specialised medical attention. The remaining patients are receiving appropriate treatment across designated health facilities,” he said.»

The KNCDC boss said the state had activated emergency response measures, including enhanced surveillance, case management and containment strategies, to prevent further spread of the disease.

According to him, the agency commenced investigations immediately after receiving reports of suspected cholera infections in affected communities.

He urged residents to cooperate with health officials and comply with preventive measures being implemented to contain the outbreak.

Abbas also advised members of the public to promptly take anyone experiencing persistent vomiting or diarrhoea to the nearest health facility.

He stressed that early diagnosis and timely treatment were critical to preventing severe complications and reducing further transmission of cholera.

The KNCDC therefore urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspected cases to health authorities as the state intensifies efforts to contain the outbreak.
