Acting IGP Disu Pledges Zero Tolerance For Corruption, Seeks Public Cooperation
The new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has pledged to enforce zero tolerance for corruption, end impunity within the force, and prioritise public cooperation as he assumes leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking with State House correspondents, shortly after his decoration by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Disu said no police force anywhere in the world can succeed without the cooperation of the public.
“It’s very, very important for them to know that no police anywhere in the world can succeed without the cooperation of members of the public,” he said. “I’m going to ensure that I take their welfare into consideration, because people who are motivated put in their best.”
The Acting IGP declared that under his leadership, misconduct would not be tolerated.
“I will let them know that the era of impunity is over,” he said. “I will ensure that I train them and encourage them to ensure they follow human rights.”
Disu also vowed to enforce a strict anti-corruption stance within the force.
“I will ensure that they know that I will try to follow a regime of zero tolerance to corruption,” he stated, reiterating that success in policing depends largely on public trust and cooperation.
Outlining his immediate priorities, Disu said one of his first engagements with officers would focus on reorienting them about their responsibility to Nigerians. “My top priority, like one of the first lectures I’m going to have with my men, is to talk to them and let them know that the citizen of the country is the boss,” he said.
