2027: Hashim, Makinde Discuss Government Of National Unity

Presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Hashim, has disclosed that he and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, have discussed the possibility of forming a Government of National Unity after the 2027 presidential election.

Hashim made this known yesterday after meeting with Makinde in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying the discussions centred on the need for a peaceful political transition and a broad-based administration capable of addressing the country’s challenges.

According to him, the proposed arrangement would bring together competent Nigerians from different political parties and backgrounds in the interest of national stability and development.

Hashim said the objective should go beyond defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls, stressing that the country needs a political transition capable of restoring unity and rebuilding public confidence.

“We are working hard to defeat the government of misery and hardship that the government has become,” Hashim said in a post on his verified Facebook page.

He added that he and Makinde agreed on the need for unity beyond the election, particularly through the formation of a post-election Government of National Unity.

“We both agreed on unity, not just to achieve peaceful change, but a stable and united Nigeria through the formation of a post-election Government of National Unity,” he said.

Hashim argued that a post-APC administration would require the participation of what he described as the country’s most competent and patriotic citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“A post-APC-led Nigeria requires the participation of the best of the most patriotic hands to bring our nation together after twelve years of the most virulent division in our history,” he said.

The Accord candidate said Nigeria’s economic, security and institutional challenges required a broad national response, adding that the country could not afford a “winner-takes-all” approach to governance after the election.

He described his meeting with Makinde as part of wider consultations among political leaders on the need for peaceful political change, national stability and reconciliation.

Hashim further disclosed that consultations had previously been held with other presidential candidates on the proposed formation of a post-Tinubu Government of National Unity, claiming that the idea was gaining traction among political leaders.

“The journey starts NOW, with clear understanding amongst leaders!” he stated.

According to him, the proposed government would prioritise national cohesion, restoration of public confidence, strengthening of democratic institutions and mobilisation of competent Nigerians to tackle the country’s economic and security challenges.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. After the election, we must put Nigeria first,” Hashim added.
