Osun Assembly Passes Bill To End Multiple Ticketing In Motor Parks

The Osun State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking to end multiple ticketing in motor parks and introduce a digitalised system for the management of commercial transportation and traffic across the state.

The Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026, is designed to provide a coordinated framework for the regulation, registration and management of commercial transportation, motor parks, terminals, garages and loading points.

The passage of the bill followed extensive deliberations by lawmakers at plenary and consideration of the legislation at the Committee of the Whole.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, the Assembly said the legislation would provide a clearer regulatory framework for the management of motor parks while promoting a more organised relationship among transport operators, passengers and relevant government agencies.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to enacting people-oriented legislation aimed at promoting good governance, protecting the interests of residents, improving citizens’ welfare and supporting the sustainable development of the state.

One of the key provisions of the proposed law is the introduction of a digital ticketing system intended to eliminate the multiple-ticket regime currently associated with motor park operations.

The Assembly said the initiative would reduce the financial burden on transport operators, while promoting transparency and efficiency in revenue collection by the state government.

Beyond ticketing, the legislation seeks to strengthen the protection of passengers and other users of motor parks, promote accountability within the transport sector and ensure a more orderly management of parks and other transport facilities.

The bill, a Private Member’s Bill sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, was committed to the Committee on Works and Transport and the Legal Department of the Assembly for further scrutiny after the initial deliberations.

Following the completion of the review, the committee’s report was presented to the House and adopted after a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewumi, and seconded by Hon. Sikiru Bajepade.

The Speaker subsequently directed lawmakers to examine the clean copy of the bill before the final stage of consideration.

Adewumi later moved the motion for the Third Reading and passage of the bill, which was seconded by Hon. Taofiq Olayiwola.

The motion was adopted, leading to the passage of the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026.

The Assembly said the legislation would provide a clearer regulatory framework for motor park management and foster a more organised relationship among transport operators, commuters and government agencies.

The clean copy of the bill is expected to be forwarded to the Executive Governor of Osun State for assent in accordance with the constitutional procedure for enacting legislation.
