Ekiti 2026: ‘The Process Is Nonsense’ — PDP Candidate Decries BVAS Malfunction
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has criticised the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), saying its slow operation disrupted his accreditation process during Saturday’s election.
Oluyede, who voted at Unit 6, Ward 3, Osagburu Family Hall, said the BVAS device malfunctioned, causing delays in the accreditation of voters.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that only six voters had been accredited since voting began at about 8:30 a.m., as INEC officials struggled to fix the faulty machine at the polling unit.
Reacting to the situation, Oluyede described the electoral process as unacceptable, expressing frustration over the repeated technical challenges.
“The electoral process is nonsense. A lot of my people are yet to vote because the BVAS is not functioning properly,” he said.
He added that he was unhappy with the conduct of the election, noting that such technical glitches had occurred in previous elections at his polling unit.
“This is not the first time the machine has been faulty at my polling unit. I am not happy with the current electoral process. I will report these irregularities to the appropriate authority,” he said.
Oluyede called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure greater transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
He also alleged harassment of his supporters at different polling units, describing the situation as undemocratic.
“Some of my followers are being harassed at polling units by security agencies, and no media is reporting it,” he alleged.
The PDP candidate, however, said he had cast his vote and would remain at the polling unit to ensure his supporters were able to vote.
