Outrage At NTA Birnin Kebbi As Staff Protest Poor Welfare
Tension is brewing at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Birnin Kebbi station as employees accuse the newly posted General Manager, Ali Garba, of neglecting staff welfare and unfair treatment.
Several staff members, who spoke anonymously, alleged that allowances provided by NTA headquarters for special outside broadcasts and duties are being slashed, with workers reportedly receiving only between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000.
The situation, they claimed, contributed to an incident at the recently concluded fishing festival where a staff member collapsed. Instead of being taken to a hospital, the worker was allegedly rushed to a patent medicine store to cut costs.
Employees warn that continued disregard for welfare could endanger staff health and safety. They are calling on NTA’s national headquarters to urgently intervene.
One staff member lamented: “We give our best to the station, but our welfare is ignored. If this continues, it will affect both morale and productivity.”
The controversy has sparked outrage among workers, with many insisting that immediate action is needed to restore confidence and ensure proper treatment of employees.
