Former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the August 15 governorship election, urging him to use his renewed mandate to promote unity, fairness and inclusive governance in the state.

Aregbesola, in a congratulatory statement issued on Monday, also commended the people of Osun for their participation in the election, describing their conduct as a reflection of the state’s political sophistication.

He called on political actors, party supporters and residents to put the election behind them and work towards peace, unity and the development of the state.

The former governor also urged Adeleke to extend a hand of fellowship to political tendencies across Osun, stressing the need for the governor to govern for the benefit of all residents irrespective of political affiliation.

Aregbesola equally commended members and supporters of the ADC for their steadfastness and commitment to the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, throughout the electioneering period.

He described Salaam’s conduct during and after the election as dignified and mature, particularly his response to the outcome of the poll.

“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

“Now that the people of Osun have spoken through the ballot, their decision must be respected. I therefore extend my best wishes to Governor Adeleke as he prepares to commence another term in office.

“I am particularly proud of your steadfastness, courage and commitment throughout this journey. You stood firm, worked tirelessly and remained committed to the ideals that brought us together, even in the face of enormous political pressure and an intensely competitive electoral environment,” he said.

Aregbesola said Salaam’s campaign reflected the ADC’s belief that politics should be centred on ideas, competence, character and service to the people.

“Dr. Salaam has conducted himself with dignity throughout this contest. His campaign represented our tradition and conviction that politics should be about ideas, competence, character and service to the people,” he added.

He urged ADC members and supporters not to allow the outcome of the election to destroy the relationships and friendships built during the campaign.

“Let us therefore preserve the friendships, relationships and bonds forged during this journey. Let us continue to engage constructively, speak for the people and hold government accountable while offering responsible alternatives wherever necessary,” Aregbesola stressed.

He said the ADC would continue to contribute constructively to the political development of Osun State while remaining committed to the interests and aspirations of the people.
