Coalition Demands INEC Compliance with Court of Appeal Judgment on Action Alliance The Coalition of Civil

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with Court of Appeal decisions concerning the leadership of the Action Alliance (AA) and the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

The Coalition made the demand at a world press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2026, addressed by its Convener, Comrade James Okoronkwo.

The group said the Court of Appeal had affirmed Chief Kenneth Udeze as the authentic National Chairman of the Action Alliance, and argued that the decision should guide INEC’s recognition of the party’s leadership and presidential candidate.

Court of Appeal decisions in January 2024 affirmed Udeze’s position as National Chairman after dismissing an appeal challenging an earlier FCT High Court judgment. More recent reports also indicate that the Udeze-led faction has continued to rely on the appellate decisions amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.

According to the Coalition, the National Executive Committee of the Action Alliance under Udeze subsequently conducted a presidential primary at which Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe, popularly known as Fadojoe, emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The Coalition therefore urged INEC to recognise Fadojoe as the Action Alliance’s presidential candidate and withdraw its recognition of Adekunle Omo-Aje as the party’s presidential candidate.

“We call on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, to immediately redress this anomaly and demonstrate respect for the rule of law,” Okoronkwo said.

The group specifically demanded that INEC publish Fadojoe’s name as the Action Alliance’s presidential candidate, withdraw the recognition accorded to Omo-Aje and fully comply with the Court of Appeal judgment concerning Udeze’s chairmanship.

The Coalition also warned that failure by INEC to respond to its demands within a reasonable period could lead it to mobilise civil society groups across the country for peaceful mass action, while pursuing available legal avenues.

The claims regarding the effect of the Court of Appeal judgments and the status of the competing presidential claims were those made by the Coalition at the press conference. Recent media reports have similarly reported the Coalition’s demand, while noting that INEC’s response to the allegations was not included in the statement issued by the group.

The development comes amid an unresolved leadership dispute within the Action Alliance, with competing legal proceedings and claims concerning the party’s leadership continuing to feature in recent reports.
