Osun Decides: I Am Confident Of Victory, Oyebamiji

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has expressed confidence in his victory in the ongoing governorship election, while commending the peaceful conduct of voters, election officials and security personnel.

Oyebamiji spoke shortly after casting his ballot at Ward 9, Polling Unit 011, Gantry Area, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

He said the electoral process at his polling unit was proceeding peacefully, with voters, INEC officials and security operatives present.

“I have just voted and I can see that people came out here. Every process is going peacefully. The INEC officials are here, the voters are here, the police are here and the security operatives are here.

“So far, my assessment is that everything is going peacefully here, especially at this unit,” he said.

On his expectation from the election, Oyebamiji expressed confidence in victory.

“My expectation is that I’m going to party today,” he said.p

The APC candidate said reports from other polling units also indicated that the election was generally peaceful, adding that security operatives had intervened in areas where there were attempts to cause disturbances.

“From the information we have received so far, everything is going on well. The election is going peacefully. INEC is doing its job, and at the same time, the security people are attending to one or two places where some people want to cause trouble. The police are in charge,” Oyebamiji said.

He appealed to voters and other stakeholders to maintain peace throughout the exercise, particularly amid concerns over possible violence.

“I want to appeal to the people that it is important that they conduct themselves and vote peacefully. The security people have to be in charge,” he said.

Oyebamiji also commended the electoral officials for what he described as a commendable operation, expressing optimism that the peaceful conduct would continue across the state.

Asked to comment on reports that a lawmaker had been arrested with machine guns, the APC candidate declined, saying the security agencies were responsible for handling such incidents.

“I don’t have any reaction to that. I think the security operatives will do their job,” he said.
