Osun 2026: AMBO Raises Concern Over Alleged Killing Of Over 40 APC Members During Meeting With British Envoys
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on Tuesday expressed concern over the rising wave of political violence in the state, alleging that more than 40 members of his party have been killed ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Oyebamiji made the allegation while receiving a delegation from the British High Commission at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office, where discussions centred on preparations for the forthcoming governorship poll and the security situation in the state.
The APC flagbearer also dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported call for the British government to impose visa restrictions on him and other APC leaders, describing the request as misplaced.
According to him, if any political party had grounds to seek such action, it would be the APC, considering what he described as the repeated attacks on its members.
Oyebamiji recalled that ahead of the 2022 governorship election, several APC members were allegedly killed in communities including Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ikirun, Ikire and Ede, adding that the incidents were formally reported to the Nigeria Police Force.
He alleged that a similar pattern of violence has emerged ahead of the 2026 election, claiming that over 40 APC members have lost their lives.
Despite his concerns, the APC candidate commended the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies for efforts to curb political violence and maintain peace ahead of the election.
He also expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election.
During the meeting, the Head of Media of the APC Campaign Council, Mr. Oluremi Omowaiye, presented what the party described as pictorial evidence of the alleged killings of APC members to the British High Commission delegation.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Senior Political Adviser at the British High Commission, Mr. Adewale Adebanjo, said the mission remained politically neutral and was in Osun State to monitor developments ahead of the governorship election.
He assured the APC delegation that the commission would take into consideration the information presented during the engagement.
“We are apolitical and are here to monitor activities relating to the 2026 governorship election. We will work with what we have learnt today,” Adebanjo said.
The meeting comes amid heightened political activities and growing concerns over security as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
