2027: APC Governors Reject Alliances That Could Undermine Tinubu’s Re-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum has declared that its members will not support any political alliance or arrangement capable of weakening the party or undermining President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

The governors announced the position after a closed-door meeting in Abuja, where they resolved to oppose political arrangements they believe could create divided loyalty or conflict of interests within the ruling party.

Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, said the governors remained committed to strengthening the APC and protecting the interests of the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uzodimma said the forum had unanimously agreed that its members would neither participate in nor support any political arrangement capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election, weakening the APC or adversely affecting its candidates at various levels.

According to him, the governors would continue to work towards consolidating the party’s electoral structure ahead of the next general elections.

The development comes amid growing political activities surrounding the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his emerging political alliance popularly referred to as the “Rainbow Coalition.”

Wike has maintained that the coalition is aimed at supporting President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. However, the involvement of politicians supporting candidates on different party platforms has raised concerns among some APC stakeholders.

The minister had recently accused some APC governors, including Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of working against his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike argued that his support for Tinubu at the presidential level should not prevent him from supporting candidates of his choice in other elections, insisting that politicians should be allowed to pursue their preferred political alliances.

However, the APC governors appear concerned that such an arrangement could create confusion among voters and weaken the party’s candidates in legislative and governorship contests.

The governors’ position is therefore seen as an attempt to ensure that support for Tinubu’s presidential bid is aligned with the broader electoral interests of the APC at the state and legislative levels ahead of the 2027 elections.
