The Chairman of Ede North Local Government, Hon. Adeyemi Elliot Oluwasesan, has flagged off the construction of a multimillion-naira ultramodern shopping complex in Ede, Osun State.

The project, named after late Amusa Lawal Akogun, a former chairman of Ede North Local Government, was formally inaugurated on Thursday during a ceremony attended by political leaders, community members and party supporters.

Speaking during the event, the council chairman, Hon. Elliot Adeyemi said the shopping complex was conceived to support traders and boost commercial activities within the local government, particularly benefiting market women and petty traders in the area.

He urged members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in the council area to remain united and prepare for the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15 in the state.

Representing the family of the late Chief Amusa Lawal at the event, Adesoji Alade Lawal commended the local government for naming the project after the former council chairman, noting that the gesture would encourage younger generations to emulate the positive legacies of past community leaders.

According to him, “We really love this. If it continues, it is going to bring unity and promote togetherness among all the sons and daughters of Ede. All I would like to let everyone know is that we need to change the dimension of our politics in Nigeria for it to be better for all of us and for the coming generations. Because if we continue fighting ourselves in this way, we are not giving a good representation to the outside world. Moreover, they will think that we are still living in the notion of the past.”

In his own remarks, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ede North, Prince Omoyele Alabi, described the project as a major development initiative that would contribute to the economic growth of the town due to its strategic location.

He said, “It’s a welcome development, and we thank God for the kind of chairman we currently have at the local government, who is doing this in remembrance of a prominent late leader of Ede. The complex will have a very big impact on the economy of the town at large because it is located in a very strategic area in Ede. I also advise the chairman of the local government and his team to undertake more developments of this magnitude for the town.”

Also speaking, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Akanbi, said the project was dedicated to the memory of the late Amusa Lawal, whom he described as one of the early political figures in Ede.

He added that members of the APC in the area remained committed to the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

According to him, “”We are fully prepared for the Osun governorship election. As you can see, look at the crowd yourself; despite the kind of intimidation, you can still see the turnout. We are fully prepared. I want to advise party members to remain dedicated to the cause we all believe in because, as a progressive family, we always ensure that the welfare of the masses is paramount in our minds. So they should stay with the party and do what they need to do.”
