A group of Political Parties in Osun State has commended the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, for keeping to its promise of being neutral in the process leading to the forthcoming August 15 governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed by the state chairman of Action Peoples Party (APP), Hon. Odesola Oluseye Titus, on behalf of other parties and made available to New Telegraph in Osogbo, on Wednesday, they appreciated INEC for its professionalism and comportment in keeping the peaceful atmosphere in the build-up to the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

According to Odesola, INEC staffs in the state have shown that they are up to the task, right from the commencement of the Continuous Voters Registration till date.

In said:”The early sensitisation embark upon by Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, is commendable and unprecedented in the history of any election in our dear state.

Agboke has never looked down on any of us as chairmen of political parties in the state and he has promised to be an unbiased empire in the forthcoming elections.

“We wish to pass a vote of confidence in him and we believe that the Osun governorship election shall be a model for other states in the country. We are solidly behind him because of the trust we have in him.

“We can vouch for Agboke’s integrity to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible election come August 15. We have searched and found nothing implicating in his

“We want to implore Osun people to get ready for this election and be prepared to participate in it as it is their civic duty to choose whoever they wish to lead them”

Meanwhile, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Apesin – Abiodun Adegoke has condemned the reported attempt to transfer the current Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Mutiu Agboke ahead of the gubernatorial election.

Adegoke, in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Osogbo, said such move, if true , raises serious concerns about the integrity, neutrality and credibility of the electoral process under the leadership of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan.

“It has come to our attention that this alleged action is part of a broader attempt by certain political interests to undermine the electoral process in Osun State. After several failed efforts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent the performing Governor of Osun State, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, from contesting or appears on the ballot, there are now claims of a plot to remove Dr. Agboke widely regarded as a principled and uncompromising electoral officer and replace him with a more pliable figure”

“We wish to state unequivocally that the people of Osun State have already rejected the APC. With the visible strides in governance and development under the current administration, it is evident that the opposition faces an uphill task in securing support across the state”.
