Sowore Visits Hashim, Hails Accord Candidate After Court Victory

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has paid a congratulatory visit to Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim following the Federal High Court judgment affirming Hashim as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The visit followed the dismissal by the court of preliminary objections filed in the case and its directive to relevant electoral authorities to recognise Hashim as the duly nominated presidential candidate of the Accord Party.

Sowore, a prominent pro-democracy activist and presidential candidate, congratulated Hashim on the legal victory, which effectively resolved the dispute surrounding his emergence as the party’s standard-bearer for the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting also brought together two presidential candidates with long-standing backgrounds in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement, activism and political advocacy.

Hashim had earlier expressed appreciation to the judiciary, his supporters and other stakeholders in the Accord Party following the judgment.

He also called on the various factions within the party to put their differences behind them, reconcile and unite in order to build a stronger and more formidable political organisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Accord presidential candidate maintained that the party was positioned to compete strongly in the presidential, governorship and National Assembly elections.

According to him, the 2027 elections will be shaped largely by Nigerians’ concerns over the country’s economic hardship, insecurity and other pressing challenges, rather than assumptions based solely on the outcome of previous elections.

The meeting between Sowore and Hashim further highlighted the convergence of political figures with roots in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement as the country begins to gear up for the 2027 general elections.
