ODU Kicks Off 27th Oba-Oke Day Activities, Unveils Plans For Community-Driven Development Initiative
Activities marking the 27th Oba-Oke Day have officially commenced in Oba-Oke, Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, as the Oba-Oke Development Union (ODU) unveiled plans for a major community-driven development initiative aimed at strengthening unity and accelerating grassroots development in the state.
The Chairman of the Oba-Oke Development Union, TPL AbdulGanniyu Oladipupo Yakubu, announced that the 2026 celebration will feature the launch of a ₦500 million Development and Appeal Fund to support the completion of ongoing projects and the execution of new infrastructure initiatives within Oba-Oke and its surrounding communities.
According to Yakubu, projects earmarked under the fund include completion of the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern community hall, Completion of the NYSC Corps Members’ Lodge, and other strategic programmes targeted at improving infrastructure, social amenities, and overall community development in Osun State.
He noted that Oba-Oke Day 2026, beyond its celebratory outlook, is positioned as a platform to deepen community unity, social inclusion, and collective responsibility, while mobilising sons and daughters of Oba-Oke across Osun State and in the diaspora to contribute to sustainable development.
In a goodwill message, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adam Iyiola Bamidele Yusuf, the Oloba of Oba-Oke, prayed for all indigenes, friends of the community, and invited guests travelling from far and near, wishing them a safe journey to Oba-Oke this week as they come to celebrate with the town.
As part of activities lined up for the celebration, a novelty football match will take place at St. Peter’s Primary School, Oba-Oke. The first match, scheduled for 3:00 pm, will feature the Oba-Oke Tailors’ Association versus the Okada Riders’ Association, while the second match will kick off at 4:00 pm between Young Star FC, Ilie and Oba-Oke FC.
The Union further disclosed that important personalities from across all walks of life, including political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, business leaders, and community stakeholders from within and outside Osun State, are expected to grace the 27th Oba-Oke Day celebration.
In a related remark, the Secretary of the Union, Mr. Wahab Abimbola Odegoke, reaffirmed the commitment of the Oba-Oke Development Union to transparency, accountability, and inclusive participation in the management of funds and execution of projects linked to the event.
The Oba-Oke Development Union expressed optimism that Oba-Oke Day 2026 will further strengthen unity among residents and position the town as a model for community-driven development in Osun State.
