Alleged Assassination Plot: Stop Feeding Public With False Narrative, TICC Tells Osun CP, Lawmaker

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, and the Director-General of the AMBO Campaign, Hon. Wole Oke, who represents the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, of colluding to mislead the public over the alleged assassination attempt on the lawmaker.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that video evidence in its possession exposed what he described as a false narrative surrounding the alleged assassination attempt and called into question the integrity of the police investigation.

Olajengbesi alleged that the video contradicted the public claims made by the Osun State Police Command during the parade of the suspects and supported the council’s position that innocent persons and leaders of the Accord Party were deliberately targeted for political reasons.

“We therefore demand that the commissioner of police immediately release the complete, unedited confessional statements and all video recordings obtained from the suspects from the point of arrest to the conclusion of their interrogation. The public deserves to know the truth, not carefully selected narratives designed to achieve political objectives,” he said.

The council further alleged that the police selectively disclosed information to the public by claiming that influential individuals were mentioned in the alleged plot while withholding the actual confessional statements, a development it said had undermined public confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of the police.

Olajengbesi also alleged that information available to the council indicated that Oke was mounting pressure on the police to grant the suspect administrative bail in an attempt to prevent the matter from being tested in open court. He insisted that the suspect should instead be arraigned if there was credible evidence.

He said, “If the police have credible evidence against the suspect, there is no justification for shielding the matter from judicial scrutiny. The only credible and lawful course of action is to arraign the suspect before a competent court and allow the facts to be tested transparently in accordance with the law.”

TICC also called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Police Service Commission to order an independent review of the investigation and ensure that any officer found to have compromised the integrity of the Force is held accountable, while reiterating its commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics.
